Andy-
Just kidding! But did you notice that your hat matches your walls? You're so color coordinated!
Jocelyn
OOOPS! I thought the vibrant red color was one of the very hideous colors painted by the previous rentors! My mistake!!!!

There's nothing special going on here for us to talk about, so we figured we should just put up something about everyday life! We aren't used to having an actual "lawn" that needs mowing, so it was fun to have to borrow the mower from the neighbor and do some cutting. We set up Andy's weight set and Drew was so excited about pumping iron. The bedrooms and almost every room in the house have been painted very hideous colors by the previous rentors, and we can not stand it anymore. We started in the master bedroom and got some very vibrant red. We plan to paint the kitchen also, since it is the worst of all of the colors. We hope that everyone is doing ok wherever you are. Good luck with everything!

I went to Kaiserslautern last Saturday and spent the whole day BY MYSELF! I spent most of the time with my good friend Cori. Then I went grocery shopping to buy all the things that are cheaper there. I also stopped by to visit my only German friend there, Linda Lewing. She's German and her husband is American. They lived most of their lives in Baumholder Germany and moved to Kaiserslautern after she retired from working, just about the time we did. I was assigned to visit teacher her with Cori (Cori and I met by being assigned as visiting teaching companions). Sister Lewing really likes me and we've kept in touch.

On other fronts, some good news. Perceval is potty trained!! Yeah! This is the first time in 9 years that I am not pregnant, nursing, or changing diapers!! It was super easy, didn't even make an effort, because he did it all by himself. This is rather monumental considering 3 weeks ago he didn't want anything to do with the toilet. Then we (ran out of diapers and) went on vacation and he was stuck in the hotel room and couldn't go off in some corner of the house by himself to go to the bathroom in his diaper so we just put him on the toilet. He thought it was fun, everything worked out, so when we came home I just put some underwear on him. It was nice weather so we spent most days outside. He had a few accidents but he's been clean (as you say in French) since. Even at nights, only one accident since we started. It's so nice it's over!!
Well, I need to get ready for the day and get the kids up in a minute. Hope you have a great day.

I dont know how many of you have ever has a colonoscopy. It is not the most enjoyable exam you can have.
The day before you can't eat anything except clear liquids and then the evening before you have to drink a gallon of
special not so good tasteing liquid within three hours. Mom is in the last throughs of that right now. Drinking, puking, pooping and hopefully clearing the large intestines. So that at noon tomorrow they can go in with a long tube and explore her large intestines. Not much fun--- but that is where were at tonight!!!
Plus we got two more Spanish Elders dropped on us---we will try and get _____ of them by Saturday. 4 is toooo many

A day like any other day

Good morning to everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't posted any pictures in a while so I thought I would let you see a few I have taken recently. Spencer lost his first tooth the other day so we had to have a photo of that and yesterday John came to breakfast wearing swimming goggles. Honestly, with John you just never know what your going to get. Abby got a new pixie cut that she loves because her hair doesn't fall in her face when she reads.

Love to all of you.

I lost whatever I had on here so if this is a repeat I am sorry. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and good thoughts. I am somewhat better. Last week was "recouperate from the hospital". This week is making appointments for more tests. On to more happy things.
The following I got from our RS newsletter. It helped me to have some insight. Maybe it will help someone out there when you are felling down.
Malachi 3:3 "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled some sisters in a Relief Society meeting and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of Heavenly Father. One sister offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to report at their next Relief Socitety meeting.
That week, the sister called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention why. She watched him put the lump of silver in the long-handled cup and then he put the cup of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The sister thought about Heavenly Father holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The sister was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith. "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy--when I see my image in it."
If today you are feelint the heat of the fire, remember that Heavenly Father has his eye on you and will keep watching over you until He sees His image in you.

We are so blessed as a family. It's great that we are keeping in touch. I for one feel much closer to you all since we have been blogging. Keep up the good blogging. I send my love to you all. Marie

Well, Since dad put the pictures of the girls on here, I guess I don't have to. Instead, I took some pictures of our dirt backyard. We are working to get sod in soon. Yesterday we began building the planter boxes for our garden. We will eventually cover the blocks with flagstone. Brandi I had fun mortaring the block together. It got dark and we had to use a flashlight to see. We are going to make 3 of these boxes next to each other.

Just went looking for Easter pictures to post and realized that I only had three, and they weren't really of Easter! I'll have to get some from my in-laws. Come to think of it, Patrice must have saved them to his laptop while we were there because I don't have pictures from Amsterdam either. I'll talk to him when he gets home and post later.
Amsterdam was fun. It's always nice to travel with Patrice when he's on business because he doesn't stress about the cost of things as much (because half of it is paid for already!) and when he's happy, we're all happy!!
We took a canal cruise, visited the Anne Frank house (Alienor, Perceval and I), had a Teppan Yaki dinner (the kids loved the chopsticks!), had lunch at Van Poort Cleves restaurant (home of Heineken beer and numbered steaks - Patrice's was 5,700,000 something), visited a working wind mill (did you know they served the purpose of emptying the city of water, from one canal to the next? - most of the country lies below sea level), stopped at the Corrie Ten Boom home in Haarlem (but couldn't wait around until the next tour), and visited a flower farm (saw fields of flowers but we were about a week too early to see the tulips as it's been a long winter). We had a nice time and it wasn't too far away, about 4-5 hours.
Oh, I almost forgot the best (and worst!) part of Amsterdam - the bicycles!!! They are everywhere!! And the style is pre-WWII (or looks like it to me) so they all look the same. Almost all are black. I don't know how anyone can tell it was their bike except the locks (and there are lots that aren't even locked up). You have to watch when crossing streets because you have to cross the bike lane first, then the main street, and sometimes another bike lane. They have their own signals too. You just really have to pay attention and keep the kids out of their way. They seem to have the right of way in most situations too and don't like to have to slow down for pedestrians in their way. Alienor couldn't get over (I can't either) seeing ladies in their 40s and 50s in dresses and high heels on bikes. She kept pointing out to me, 'look at her shoes'. The bikes look like they don't have gears but my father in law said it's the old system where you push backwards on the pedals quickly (as if braking) and it changes gears. I don't know but that's what he said. Not only do people ride bikes, but I saw child seats, rear-facing in front of the handle bars and forward facing behind the seat (and sometimes both on a bike at once!). There is also a bike that has a little wagon in front of the handle bars (we saw one with 3 little kids in it). I saw one lady with with two kids in seats and a stroller attached behind everything. The general population must have some rock solid calves!
That's my little travel log. Will post pictures soon.
Jocelyn
Now we just need to see eggs from mathan, Bobby and marion;s families.
Mom is slowly getting better.Still has a sore stomach and swelling in her legs. She goes to see Chard today for a check up so i will report on that later.
Cass went delivering with me last nite and came home had soup that gayle manning made for us. The soup was great and after we played a couple of games of Parcheese. It was a nice evening.

Here are our Easter pitures. We had the egg hunt after we got home from church since church was so early. Luckily, the Easter Bunny left the eggs near the door in case it rained, which it did! Little Drew actually figured out the idea and found 4 of the eggs by himself! Little Shawnna proudly wore the dress that Gramma Cass bought for her during her Chicago road trip! A fun time was had by all.

David and I are waiting for Easter pictures from everyone....especially me since I missed out on the whole american easter egg hunt and new dress and all that fun stuff!!! I showed the pictures of Cassy, mom and dad to David and he said, "That is just a normal egg it´s not painted."(refering to the egg dad is holding) I told him that is was painted and that the eggs in the US are white not orange/brown. He was still a little skeptical!! Hope you are all well and happy. Hugs from Spain.

Shan and ron brought dinner over and included 4 easter eggs so I hid them and then invited Cassy over to find them!
Of course Marie made sure I had to find ones that Cassy hid for me. Afterwards we dyed eggs just to remember the good old days. I guess we kind a got the cart before the horse but we wernt up to doing eggs last nite. Anyway it was a fun time for the three of us and it gave Marie something to be involved in even tho she is on the mend and not to lively yet.

Happy Easter! I pray for all of you on this day of recognition of our Saviors sacrafices. I had a great day. All of the boys made items for dinner. We al sort of worked together. We had a Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, scalloped potatoes, green bean cassarole, leaf salad, pasta salad, carrots, brownie cake and pecan pie. It was a very good meal!! We even all sat around our dinning room table and ate like we were a family. We found ourselves an hour later still sitting there chatting it up! It was one of the best Easters a single man could ask for when he is away from his family. I have great friends!

Mid December-Above is a picture of my roommate Kurt and I watching college football a few months back.

Taken Early March-This picture is of a friend of mine. Her name is Allison. She is a fun military brat. Just moved to Omaha from Florida. A bunch of us went out and had a theme night in the old market (downtown). Stripes and jeans was our theme for the evening so everyone was wearing jean pant or skirts and a stripped shirt.

It is fun to go down town and mingle with all of the 20-30 year olds from the 6 colleges in the 50 mile radius of down town. We have fun when we actually all go out.

Love y'all!
Happy Easter everyone!

We just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful day. We are hopeful that if Marie is home that it means she is feeling a little better, if not, we hope she will be feeling better soon.

Our love to all of you
Bryan, Marion, Abby, Spencer and John
Jocy anytime is a good time to share. Dont wait cause of me Im doing
better now thaks to all your prayers. So I am looking forward to your messages.
That goes for you all. Your postings bring great joy and happiness

The first warm weekend we have experienced here in the Chicagoland area! The neighbor kids were selling Iced Tea on the corner and they let Shawnna put in her lemonade for sale. 25 cents a cup! It was amazing to see how many cars were willing to stop. There was even one couple that admitted that they were "actually" driving up and down the streets looking for lemonade stands. Try doing this in downtown Orange County! She was only there for about a half hour and came out with more than a dollar. Imagine if she had spent the whole day out there!
Here's another Easter activity to do with the kids. It's not too late to do it this year! I missed doing it tonight because we just got home and put the kids to bed but I'm planning on doing it tomorrow night. I'll let you know how they turn out!

This is a really neat and very effective activity for Easter. Do it the
*evening before* Easter Sunday, just before your children are ready to get
into bed.

Easter Story Cookies

You need:
1 cup whole pecans
1 teaspoon vinegar
3 egg whites pinch of salt
1 cup of sugar
zip lock baggie (freezer baggies work best)
wooden spoon
mixing bowl
wax paper
cookie sheet
long piece of tape for each child (electrical tape is great - needs to stick
to the oven door)

1) Bible Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. This is very important! Do this
first!
2) Place the pecans in the baggie and let the children beat them with the
wooden spoon to break all the pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested
he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3
3) Let each child smell the vinegar--yucky. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into the
mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given
vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.
4) Add the egg whites to the vinegar in the bowl. Eggs represent life.
Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.
Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush
the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by
Jesus' followers and the bitterness of our own sins. Read Luke 24:27. (So
far the ingredients are not very appetizing!)
5) Add 1 cup of sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that
Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read
Psalms 34:8 and John 3:16.
6) Beat the mixture with mixer on high speed for 12- 15 minutes (yes, that's
correct) until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white
represents the purity of those whose sins have been forgiven by Jesus. Read
Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3.
7) Fold in the broken pecan pieces to the mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto
a wax papered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky
tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60.
8) Place the cookie sheet in the oven, close the oven door and TURN THE OVEN
OFF!! Give each child a strip of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that
Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66.
9) Now, send the children to bed! Explain that they may feel sad to leave
the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the
tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20, 22.
10) On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the
cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow!! On the first
Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read
Matthew 28:1-9. HE HAS RISEN! Happy Easter, everyone!
I thought this was a cute activity to do with our still-young children to help them learn about and appreciate why we celebrate Easter. I thought I'd post it here. Hopefully you'll be able to cut and past to save it for yourselves.

Resurrection Eggs

Here's a fun activity to help your children learn the Easter story. Simply
buy a bag of plastic eggs and place the items listed below into each egg.
Hide the eggs around the house and allow the children to find them all. Then
have each child open their egg and discuss what the items in each egg
represent. Number the eggs so that you remember the correct order to open
them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 1: Three dimes A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Matthew. 26:14) 14. Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went
unto the chief priests, 15. And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I
will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of
silver.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 2: One sacrament cup A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Matt. 26:39) 39. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and
prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 3: Twine with knots in it A small piece of paper with the following
verse reference:
(Matt. 27:1) 1. When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders
of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2. And when
they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate
the governor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 4: A piece of soap A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Matt. 27:24) 24. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that
rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the
multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to
it. 25. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on
our children. 26. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 5: Square of red fabric A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Matt. 27:28) 28. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29.
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and
a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked
him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30. And they spit upon him, and took
the reed, and smote him on the head.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 6: A cross (made from toothpicks) A small piece of paper with the
following verse reference:
(Matt. 27:31) 31. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off
from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him
they compelled to bear his cross.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Egg 7: Two dice A small piece of paper with the following verse reference:
(Matt. 27:35) 35. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting
lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They
parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 36.
And sitting down they watched him there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 8: A tiny bag of crushed rock And a small piece of paper with the
following verse reference: (Matt. 27:50, 51 & 54) 50. Jesus, when he had
cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51. And, behold, the
veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the
earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 54. Now when the centurion, and they
that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things
that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 9: Strip of white cloth A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Matt. 27:58) 58. He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then
Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. 59. And when Joseph had taken the
body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60. And laid it in his own new
tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the
door of the sepulchre, and departed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 10: A stone A small piece of paper with the following verse reference:
(Matthew 27:65) 65. Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way,
make it as sure as ye can. 66. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure,
sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 11: Bayleaf spice A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Mark 16:1-4) 1. And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the
mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come
and anoint him. 2. And very early in the morning the first day of the week,
they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3. And they said
among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the
sepulchre? 4. And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away:
for it was very great.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Egg 12: An empty egg A small piece of paper with the following verse
reference:
(Mark 16:5-6) 5. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man
sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were
affrighted. 6. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of
Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place
where they laid him.

I was all excited to share some of our travel log from the last few days but after reading about how you're doing, Marie, it sure might come across as unfeeling, poor timing and overall inappropriate! I'll wait a few days and hopefully we will hear that they have found what is causing your pain and what needs to be done to get you back on your feet. We sure hope you will feel more at ease in the comfort of your own home. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Wish we lived closer and were able to visit and help out. (Somehow I feel like I'll end up saying that too many times!)
Love to you all.

Fri nite
Mom started the day feeling better and was able to get some little food to stay down. Right after noon and eating a little the pains and nausea came back. Shan was ther mom was on her kneesby the bed trying to get ride of the gas and Shan was next to her rubbing her back. I went this evening for a couple of hours and we walke around the hosp for awhile to relive her but not much changed except she got weaker. her blood pressure has been high 175/97 so they have a patch on her shoulderleft before we got a reading this evening. they may do another cat scan of her stomach area and now maybe her brain. to see if there is a nerulogical reason for her small intestines hurting. i like that shows that maybe some doc can think outside of the box. So that is the latest
more tomorrow love ED

Hi all
mom thanks everyone for the calls and concern. she tried hard to get the solution down but tended
to throw most of it back up as soon as it hit the hot spot in her stomach. but after the up and down scopes
they found nothing she did seem to feel a little better afterwards so she told me tonight that she should have just taken an ennnnnima on monday and skipped all the hosp stuff. the service at the hosp has been really bad. We finally scurried around
and got some materials to give her a apit bath tonigh. poor thing sat on her bed and almost froze while ashing herself and i did her back and helped dry her off. got her teeth brushed again and brushed her hair. Got her organized for another nite ar the hosp. and left about 10 pm. we will see if they keep jer any longer tomorrow. ty to ninah, shawnnna and drew for the note and flowers. ty to cassy for her great help at times when i cant b there and for the flowers too. Wish i had more info but that is all there is that i know. ty for all ur prayers they r most helpfull the Lord hears them in Spain , NJ. IL, IA, CO, UT or CA
LOVE TO YOU ALL What a great family u all r
Lucky me...I got the opportunity to talk to mom today. When the conversation began she sounded like she was in a lot of pain, and from the conversations I have hd with her and dad...she has every reason to be feeling pain. I talke dot mom for nearly 30 minutes with the warning, "if I hang up on you it is because I have to hurry and throw up." Mom chuckled when she said it and I got a laugh out of it as well. As we chatted she became jovial and fun...mom is amazing...we talked about her and her status for the first 6 or 7 minutes and she turned the conversation in to, "so how are you Jeff?" And would not let me bring the conversation back to her setbacks and struggles. Mom is amazing, she has always been such a rock for this family and has raised five amazing kids...dad included. I point this out because, for the first time i realized how important all of her lectures and follow ups from her are...today, i grew up (a little) and gain a stronger appreciation for mom, I had a normal conversation with her the chipperness came with her hearing about my success and day to day life. I heard pride in her sore voice. Mom, is an amazing person and I love her for all of the many lectures and arguments and disiplinary actions she has taken on me.

We kids sure our blessed to have such amazing parents, cousing, aunts and uncles...as difunctional as we all may be...we all truly care, and love one another and all people.

Thank you Mommy and Daddy! You are everything that drives me to better.

With Love,

Jeffery Jon

Easter came a little early for the Normand Clan. Shawnna finally got her dancing pad and stuff that she has wanted since Christmas. We got her one for Christmas, but it was a little complicated. She will use this one until she gets into it and graduate to the bigger one.
Little Drew is all ready for some NBA action with his Slam Dunk basketball setup. He hasn't grasped the actual "throw" in basket, all he wants to do is dunk it!
Cassy and I were talking earlier about how we always get them these toys about 6 months to 1 year too early, but I think they will be able to handle these games.
Things at work are getting good. We are three weeks into the class and I only have three weeks until I start teaching a complete 11 week course all by myslef. I think with my knowledge of the cars and product I will be a valuable asset to this team of instructors here in Chicago.
I don't have much to say, but it has been a while since I have written. And unfortunalty I do not have any pics at this time either...unless you want a team picture of me and all of my girls.

Between traveling with the golf teams, training my U-13 Girls as well as sidelining their matches, training both Iowa Western Teams and taking recruits to and from the airport...life is pretty busy.

I actually got Saturday all to myself..I got up early and detailed my truck for the first time in 2-3 years. I even organized the back of my truck with milk carton boxes. All of myself is organized and looking sharp. I remembered how much fun I usd to have detailing. it was nice that it was my own truck this time though! After the 3 hours of detailing I went to a 10 am H.S. match, another one at 2 p.m. then a club match in west Omaha at 5 and then I met MY U-13's at our championship indoor match. They played a tight game and lost 1-0. The girls were all dissapointed but smiling and gitty as if they had just won! The fun thing is...we get to face this team outdoors Tuesday night...so we will see if there is much of a difference. It should be fun!

This week is another full one, with H.S. games, our college tournament that we are hosting on Wed. Training two club teams etc...i am really enjoying my involvement in this community. And unlike int Utah, I actualy feel appreciated.

Things are going well and I am happy to be in Council Tuckey.
Love y'all!

Just thought that I would give a brief update and a pictorial review of our latest events. A few weeks ago it snowed. Brandi took a picture of our house and there are a few pictures of Natalie in the snow. She really loves to eat the snow. She had a great time in the snow, the cold didn't seem to bother her. She just didn't like wearing the boots. Alexa is pictured on Crazy Hair day at school and when she recieved the "Most Improved" in her class. They don't give letter grades or have an Honor Roll for 1st grade. Brinley is seen on a class field trip at the Pizzaria, where they got to make their own individual pizzas, yummy! Love ya all, Nathan and Crew
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDI!!
We hope you have a fabulous day.
Lots of hugs, David & Cindi
